Working the Corner

Scratch that. The title should be "Working on the Corner."
Hmm. Rereading that - it doesn't appear much better, does it?

Well, my drapes are still down {but I am going to pick them up from my aunt's house today}...
I told you about that, right?! I took them down, washed them and took them over to my aunt's to get some material added to the bottom. They were highwaters. Which I didn't mind so much, but my mom?!? She hated it! So, I complied. Finally. I've had the extra material (brown table clothes from Target, same material as the "drapes"). It just took me a while to get them down and out. My aunt had the drapes done in less than 24 hours. Seriously. She wanted me to have them back up in time for the holidays.

Anyway - drapes will be back up tonight... In the meantime, I was up and at Hobby Lobby yesterday before they opened. I was on a mission. I failed, but that's not the point. I found a new lamp!

I've been wanting a lamp for the formal living room - and it SPOKE to me. Seriously.
I passed by it once.
The second time, I snatched it up. It was the only one left with a brown lampshade.

Here it is:

It's a little hard to see the base, but I am okay with that.
The thing is... the new shade will go PERFECTLY with the added fabric to the drapes.
I *love* it when a plan room comes together.

Wait. See something else? I swapped out the frame (it was a sleek black IKEA frame) for a woodsy one I found at Ross last week. And then... see my new signage?! $4.99 at Hobby Lobby.
Love it.

So, what do you think?! Am I workin' it?!?

Don't answer that.
{unless you want to. i <3 comments}

Me Time

I took some Me Time last week... in the form of a trip to Hobby Lobby.
By myself.
For 2 FULL hours.
Shocking, I know!

Every single time I got to Hobby Lobby, I see this tree. I love it. But I can't bring myself to pay $15 for it. It's not that large. Even at 50% off, I passed on it. I guess I don't love it that much.

I did pick up some numbers; they are about 5" long and HEAVY. But I love them.

I like this clock.
But I already have a rather large clock.
I like clocks.
And mirrors.

I loved this cabinet, too! Isn't she a beauty?
They wanted $80 for it.
I said nope.

Can you believe they already have all of their Christmas stuff out?!

I like these trees.
I may go back for them! ;)

I ended up picking up a few things for some craft projects. Tomorrow being Sunday, I hope to have some time to work on them.

Marcos and I left the house early this morning to run some errands and to check out this place we found - it has EVERYTHING (think PICKERS on the History Channel). A 50s jukebox. Radio Cabinets (I felt weak!) Canning jars. Old tools. Wood. Doors. Windows... I could go on. It was dirty & exciting at the same time.

I bought a PIE CABINET! For $15!! It's in lovely shape... but I've got plans to change the color!! I can't wait to share that project.

After lunch, we headed to Goodwill. Which was fine as we dropped off more than we purchased! That's good, right?!

I purchased only old books, this time around. They are for the craft projects on have on my To Do list.

I hope everyone on the East Coast is safe - and, if necessary, taking precautions to stay that way. I've been watching Fox News almost all day, trying to keep in the know. My prayers are focused on the people affected by Hurricane Irene.

Can't seem to make up my mind.

Remember this post?

I think I am over them.
That was quick, huh?

I think the new look of the nook is going to involve a bit of the following:

That'll do - just enough to tide you over.

I decided what I had up just didn't match the rest of the downstairs of the house. If I am going to get cute and playful - it might as well be upstairs in the loft and in the kids' rooms.

So, as soon as I feel 100% again, I will get to work on the nook re-do.

I was able to get out and about this afternoon (it's hurts more to sit, then to walk around) - and wouldn't you know, the first place I hit was the Hobster.
And then Ross.

Look at what I scored:

#1 - Ross - Shelf - $9.99 - Not sure what I am going to do with it yet.

#2 - Hobby Lobby - $7.99 (was 50% off) - Got two of them (slightly different style). Not sure where they are going yet.

#3 and #4 - Ross - $5.99 (bought 4 total, two of each design). They are GOLD and kinda ugly. But I bought some oiled rubbed bronze spray paint at Home Depot - so I have plans! - They are going in my downstairs guest bath.

#5 - Hobby Lobby - $12.99 (was $24.99 - got it for 50% off). It's going above my window treatments on my slider. You will be able to see it when you walk into the house.

#6 - Ross - $16.99 - Going in the downstairs guest bath. Love it.

And below, I got two of them, slightly different - but they are going in my living room. Both $16.99 at Ross.

/sigh. I live retail therapy. I love places like Ross and Hobby Lobby that totally leave some extra cash in my pocket. One of the items I scored had a few issues with it, and I asked the HL manager to mark it down another 10%, so I got it for 60% off. I love it when that happens.

Can't wait to take some after pictures... Just as soon as my numero uno stud muffin gets around to hanging stuff for me.

I wouldn't want to over-do it, would I? =)

Gettin' Busy

I made it home alive and in one piece from Hobby Lobby this morning... I didn't even mention I was going - no reason for you to worry!

Oh My Goodness.
Such delicious stuff, most of which was 50% off.
Well, the stuff I was looking at anyways.

I got quite a few things...
but most important - my color palette for my kitchen and family room!
They had the most beautiful fabric there and it was just right.
Forget about the yellow/golden color.
We are going to keep those rooms the upgraded beige they are and use that as a canvas to add more colors and things.

I was able to pick up a few key pieces to get us started...
I cannot wait to share.
But!
Patience, my pretties.

So, I get home and hide all of my loot in a box in the garage...
The husband hates the fact that I am buying stuff we are just going to have to pack all up and move.
I hate that I can't just drive the stuff over right now and begin our decorating adventure.
That thought got me thinking.

The husband and I do date night fairly often -
it helps we have some built in baby-sitters.
Going forward, once we get the keys, our date nights are going to consist of me begging him to tackle the Honey, yes you are going to, don't EVEN try to get out of it list.
I giggled at the thought.
Instead of decorating... we are going to be decordating.
Gettin' busy...
Gettin' dirty...
All in the name of home-improvement.

So... when you see this picture [above],
you know the time spent on the project replaced a night at the movies.

Now... we are off to a Labor Day BBQ...
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
